Predator: Hunting Grounds players will meet Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Dutch again, developer IIIFonic has revealed.
Predator: Hunting Grounds has announced its first batch of post-launch downloadable content, and the protagonist of the 1987 film Arnold Schwarzenegger is confirmed to be reprising his role as Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer who is a Vietnam veteran. The free update will reveal a continuation of his character’s story since the face-off against the Predator in Central America while the paid one will have Dutch as a playable character. It can be considered as the most interesting detail about the upcoming game; however, it seems that Schwarzenegger isn’t just on some pic joyride, but he actually recorded new lines as the character.
According to Entertainment Weekly reports, apart from voicing Dutch after more than three decades, IIIFonix wanted to make the best use of Schwarzenegger’s time, since he was required to record some additional lines to the presented in-game as audiotapes. Dutch made shortly after the events of 1987. These will serve to expand the character’s history and “keep his story going,” says the studio. Fantastic news for Predator and Arnie fans all-round, then, but this certainly isn’t a one-off content drop for Hunting Grounds – more could potentially be on the way if fan demand is large enough, says the developer. For now, though, it’s Dutch’s time to shine.
“In order to make Predator: Hunting Grounds the game we envisioned it to be, it had to include Dutch’s story and bringing him back into the universe,” Jared Gerritzen, Chief Creative Officer at Illfonic, states in the announcement. “We have created two different items for the community in order to do this. The first is a free update, available for all players who own the game. Players will be able to learn where Dutch has been all these years and hear his story in his own words through a series of voice tapes that you earn as you level up.”
Both the free and paid update is set to launch on May 26th. Besides a playable Dutch, the paid DLC will also give the early access to QR5 “Hammerhead” Riffle and Dutch’s Knife. The access will be free to all players in June later on, as stated in the announcement. Predator: Hunting Grounds is an asymmetrical multiplayer title that pits four fireteam members against a lone Predator in a battle of cunning, strategy, and sheer will to survive.
Predator: Hunting Grounds is available in PS4 and PC.
