The analyst claims that iPhone 12 charger will be sold separately.
You might not find much in the box for this year’s iPhone besides the handset itself. Prepare your wallet cause when the iPhone 12 comes out later this year, the packaging may be different compared to previous models. Reportedly, the charger will be not included with the iPhone 12. Instead, it will be sold separately.
Historically trustworthy analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims in a research note that 2020 iPhone models not only won’t include the usually wired earbuds but won’t include the power adapter either — you may just get a charging cable. There would be a more powerful 20W charger (versus the 18W for the iPhone 11 Pro), but you’d have to buy it after the fact.
The leaked photo released this week stated that the 20W charger will be similar to the 18W version and feature a USB-C power adapter for fast charging. Apple first included a fast-charging adapter with its iPhone 11 Pro devices last year.
Besides yanking the charger out of the iPhone 12 box, Apple is also reportedly not including its wired earbuds, known as EarPods, with its newest phone. In a May research note to investors, Kuo said that he expects Apple to leave out the earbuds, which have been included since the iPhone’s original launch more than a decade ago, to drive demand for its wireless AirPods.
Barclays analysts also believed Apple would no longer bundle a charger.
Kuo believes this would be a way to cut costs and offset the higher price of including 5G wireless technology. There would also be an eco-friendly hook. Environmental critics have argued that including power adapters is frequently a waste when many people have chargers from previous phones or will top up using their computers. That probably won’t be much consolation if you do need an adapter, but it should lead to fewer of those wall warts occupying landfills.
